Weather warning for extreme heat
The Met Office has issued a number of Amber weather warnings for our region, beginning today (Monday 22nd June) through to and including Thursday 25th June, for very high temperatures and high levels of humidity both during the day and overnight. These conditions are expected to make life difficult for the entire population in a variety of ways.
In addition to the risks in our normal daily life, it is not unreasonable to expect increased visitor numbers locally as more people make for the coast and for (cooler) higher ground such as Dartmoor leading to potentially dangerous traffic delays on the major routes through our region.
Authorities are advising residents to take precautions, adapting daily routines where possible to cope with these levels of heat. Please take heed of the latest Extreme Weather Warnings issued by the Met Office and local and national government. Keep curtains closed to keep the heat out and drink plenty of fluids.
Whilst we all need to exercise caution during this period of extreme weather, the vulnerable in our community are particularly at risk. If you know of a neighbour who might be in danger, please check on them to make sure that they are safe and able to see this period through.
