Archangels Way Walk, 13th September

SATURDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER

Join us at Lydford on Saturday 13th September for another celebration day of The Archangel’s Way, a pilgrimage route for the 21st century where all are welcome to engage with our fascinating landscape, find sanctuary in historic churches and space for the soul through walking, poetry and the beauty of Dartmoor, past and present.

Guided walks will start from Brentor car park (these are all linear walks requiring transport to/ from the start/ finish).

  • 10:30 am – on and off the moor walk of 7.5 miles visiting the three churches on Stage 1 of TAW plus taking in Gibbett Hill and Lydford Gorge to finish in Lydford village. For a shorter walk, join the last stage of 1.5 miles though Lydford Gorge after lunch, starting at NT The White Lady Falls car park (access to the Gorge courtesy of the National Trust)
  • 12 noon – a separate reflective mini-pilgrimage of approx. 2 hours ending at Christchurch, North Brentor
  • Both will explore the notion of Time through our walking experiences

Parking will be available at Brentor car park (free), Lydford village DNPA car park (charges apply) and at Lydford Sports Field (donation).

Nicholls Hall, Lydford will be open with tea and cakes for sale, displays and videos about The Archangel’s Way and other Devon Pilgrim routes.

Millie’s Bakes will be at Brentor car park for 1000 breakfast supplies.

There will be Morris Dancing outside The Castle Inn, Lydfordfrom 3.00pm and Jim Causley will perform his The Archangel’s Way song.Food is available in Lydford at The Castle Inn and The Nicholls Hall.

The Archangel’s Way is part of a series of pilgrim routes developed by Devon Pilgrim across the Diocese of Exeter. It begins from St Michael’s, Brentor and ends at St Michael the Archangel, Chagford. It offers places of accommodation, a Pilgrim Passport for walkers, a series of guided reflective walks through the year and poetry, music and art along the Way.
