We are pleased to be able to announce that The Vikings, The dog show and the falconry show will all be present again at this years fair. Evening entertainment will be provided by the The Smokin’ Pilchards

Flooding

There is flooding on the roads to tavistock, which will take time to clear, please drive slowly. There is flooding between the two Lydford gorge entrances and between Brentor and Tavistock.

Lydford Community Group

The Lydford Community Group was formed to raise money to enable Lydford School to purchase the land adjacent to it. When the DMAT decided not to pursue this, the project was canceled leaving a sum of unspent funds.

Thank you for your patience while we have been returning donations and deciding on where the remaining money will be spent.

Over the course of the year we have looked into potentially doing something like buying new playground equipment or building a shelter at the Sports Field, however these would undoubtedly cost more than we actually have and involve further fundraising, in addition to this the planning and realisation of projects such as these requires much dedication, as we know from our year long fundraising campaign and although we are an ambitious bunch we also have to factor in that none of us expected to still be working on the group beyond the initial fundraising for the land, and have now moved on to other work and haven’t allowed time for such a project.

After traceable donations were returned we have a total of £6518.64 remaining.
In February this year, in the Parish Magazine, we asked for your suggestions as to what we should do with the remaining money. We had two emails responding to our request for suggestions these two emails identified the playground repairs at The Sports Field, The Sports Field, and The Nicholls Hall repairs and improvements, and other verbal responses named the Lydford Foxes. We have approached both Nicholls Hall and the Sports field for details of the projects that need funding.
The Committee also felt that the local WI group, who made a significant contribution to our Open Garden event at Long Ridge, was also deserving of a donation.

We are pleased to confirm the committee have decided to donate the following to each organisation;

£2,459.00 for The Nicholls Hall for repairs and improvements.
£2,459.00 for playground repairs at the Sports Field.
£600 for The Sports field for an additional bench or paint and improvements.
£500 The Tor & Tavy WI
£500 The Lydford Foxes

We hope to make these donations before Christmas so the funds can be put to good use in the New Year.
Although it was disappointing that the land purchase did not go ahead as hoped, this money will be very beneficial within the village and we will take great pride and pleasure in seeing it help in the local community. Thank you to everyone who gave their time and support.

Lydford Fair 2025

Next year’s Lydford Summer Fair will take place on Saturday, July 5^th 2025 at the Lydford Sports Field. This will be a traditional village fair and we anticipate lots of fun, food and entertainment for all. The event has been split into 7 areas each with one responsible person who will be key to making the event a success. We hope to build on previous year’s successful fairs and also add a few new items this time. The following people have volunteered to lead key areas and we are very grateful for their commitment:

Entrance Gate and Parking – Steve Hulett
Barbeque/Food – Paul Brookes
Tea Room – Diane Brookes
Stallholders/IT – Jonathan Gilpin
Bar/Alcohol – Mick Jones
Evening Entertainment – vacant
Treasurer and Coordinator – Richard Hollingsworth

All proceeds raised from the Summer Fair will go to the Lydford Sports Field Charity which looks after the sports field, the building and the children’s play park. The charity relies on events like this and does not receive any direct funding from any sources. The Summer Fair is by far the greatest contributor to supporting future year’s maintenance of the field for the Lydford Foxes, the building and play equipment. Different usage for a small area of the land is also being considered.

Further volunteers will be needed in all the above areas and they will be involved on the day of the Fair itself and, in some cases a short time before and after too. At present, we also need to find a person to lead the evening entertainment which usually involves finding a suitable band(s) and organising whatever is decided for the evening event.

Pub Walk fundraiser

The pub walk will be taking place this Saturday the 13th, finishing at Lydford Sports Field with music and a good night out. Register at Bridestowe Village Hall for a 2pm start.

Exhibition of artwork by local artists.

6th July Village Event

Unfortunately the organisers of the village fair decided they were unable deliver the fair this year. However, the Foxes football team have organised a BBQ and refreshments for everyone to come and socialise on the day. Please come and bring a picnic or buy something from the BBQ and mingle.
