School Aims

The Aims of all connected with Lydford Primary School are:


  • 1. To provide a broad-based curriculum for all pupils
  • 2. To deliver the National Curriculum
  • 3. To provide a safe and caring environment for the children in our care
  • 4. Through sound financial management, to provide resources to faciliate the Aims 1, 2 and 3
  • 5. For the School to be part of the whole community in an interactive way
  • 6. To promote staff training through various INSET budgets
  • 7. To equip children with the necessary skills and attitudes that will enable them to make
        a worthwhile contribution to their future environments
  • 8. To promote a feeling of care for our local, national and global environments
  • 9. To promote esteem in all connected with the School.



School Curriculum

The Governors of Lydford Primary School have agreed to adopt the Devon Curriculum Statement.
That document identifies areas of study in the primary schools' curriculum, as follows:


1.   English
2.   Mathematics
3.   Science
4.   Design Technology
5.   History
6.   Geography
7.   Information Communication Technology
8.   Music
9.   Art
10. Personal, Social & Health Education
11. Religious Education
12. Citizenship
13. Physical Education

Homework will be set on a regular basis and will generally reflect the work being covered in the classroom.
This work will be mainly English and Mathematics, but will occasionally include other subject areas.




Class Organisation and Age Ranges

      Class 1 (Key Stage 1/2)
      Reception - Rising 5s/5
      Year 1: 5/6
      Year 2: 6/7
      Class 2 (Key Stage 2)
      Year 3: 7/8
      Year 4: 8/9
      Year 5: 9/10
      Year 6: 10/11



The School Day

Morning: 9.00-12.15;     Afternoon: 13.15-15.30
All children should be at the School by 8.55 a.m.
